Chica Banda: Reviews & Ratings

I think it is intimidating when you arrive because you pass through a large parking and over there you have the little food truck and when we arrived there were nobody. It didn’t stop us to check it out. Overall the food was good! We spent like $50+ for 2x (4tacos) with a mini meat soup, another dish (2x circular tortillas) and a Mexican drink. The circular ones were not my favorite. Not sure if it’s the meat itself or the sauce inside. However, I still enjoyed trying because it was different from typical Mexican food. What I like about this place is that it proposes different variety of Mexican food which make this place unique. Mexico has such a huge variety of culinary styles that it would be complicated to combine all in one location. So it was a nice surprise place. I enjoyed trying the food. I like the beer tacos. It was served very hot. Needed to wait a couple of minutes before grabbing a bite. I tried for the first time the mango Jarritos and it was nice. Very nice flavor. I would come back to try the other dishes. The service was also very nice. We didn’t get any negative attitude at all. We were curious and asked them a few questions about where they were from etc and they were both (The married Taquero/chef) and the wife. Very kind and professional. I agree with some comments that it may lack of ‘salt’ but I noticed that most of my Mexican friends always like adding a lot of salt. To me it was fine and I appreciate the fact that it wasn’t too salty. Better to add more salt after that receiving a meal already too salty. It was a nice experience. You can definitely bring your pets as you can eat outside in the available picnic tables.

They have very limited chicken options. Most of the menu is beef. But the new and only chicken al-pastor gringa was too good with their hot salsa/sauce.

Sooo good! It was like an out-of-body experience where my mouth was transported straight to Latin America. Probably the best tacos I’ve had in Canada. We’re not quite ready to say our tacos are better than Mexico’s, but we’re closing in on them!

I ordered the beef birria tacos that comes with soup/dip and a secret menu item the beef birria ramen. The flavour of the tacos is decent but the portion of meat on the tacos is small. The flavour of the soup was really watery so unfortunately there wasn’t much flavour there. The ramen has potential - they put a lot of meat and cheese in there but again the soup was watery, also the noodles they use are like Mr. Noodles quality. Overall the price of these tacos and the quantity of the meat in them doesn’t match. More flavour in the soup please! :)

THE stop to make!! We were craving Birria tacos after rock climbing and it did not disappoint. Alejandro is the sweetest and we can’t wait to try the Birria ramen next time we stop by =) I highly recommend you order a large consommé on the side because you’ll want more!!! We picked our order right before they closed so calling for pickup is a must, especially now that it’s getting colder out.

Food was amazing and the salsa is so fresh and flavourful, very nice people and didn’t have to wait long at all. Definitely recommend trying it out. This is the full pizza birria with their medium salsa. 10/10

Amazing spot for Mexican street food! The owner is super friendly and welcoming which made the experience even better. We tried the quesabirria tacos, chicken al pastor gringa and agua de horchata. Everything was absolutely delicious. Every bite was full of flavor and we loved it all. Definitely coming back again!

Nestled in the parking lot at 800 Taunton Rd W, Oshawa, Chica Banda emerges as a standout food truck offering a fresh and authentic slice of Mexican cuisine. At first glance, its setting may feel unexpectedly quiet and unassuming, but that only adds to the charm—this is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. The couple behind the scenes, a married taquero and his wife, provide not just food but a genuine experience marked by warmth and professionalism.

Chica Banda truly shines in its range of traditional Mexican dishes that break the mold of typical taco trucks. The menu’s highlight is undoubtedly their birria tacos, hailed by customers as some of the best tacos in Canada. Served piping hot with a flavorful consommé, these tacos transport your palate straight to Latin America. The inclusion of a mini meat soup and creative takes like the beef birria ramen add layers of complexity to the menu, even if the ramen’s broth leans a little on the lighter side. These variations show a passion for exploring Mexico’s diverse culinary styles rather than settling for the usual fare.

One intriguing dish features circular tortillas, which deliver a distinct flavor profile. While opinions vary on this dish, it’s clear that Chica Banda doesn’t shy away from bold experimentation. The beer tacos stand out as another crowd-pleaser—served hot and infused with spice, they enrich the overall dining adventure.

Beyond the food, the drink selection impresses with authentic Mexican beverages like mango Jarritos, adding a refreshing sweetness to the meal. This balanced approach extends to seasoning as well, where the careful moderation of salt respects personal taste and the natural flavor of ingredients.

The limited chicken options might leave some wanting more variety, but the standout chicken al-pastor gringa with its zesty hot salsa provides a satisfying answer for poultry lovers. The generous portions of meat and cheese in the dishes ensure a fulfilling experience, even if some customers wish for a touch more depth in the soups.

Chica Banda’s open-air picnic-style setting invites guests—pets included—to relax and savor their meals in an informal atmosphere, perfect for casual outings or quick bites. The attentive service, friendly interactions, and commitment to quality create a welcoming space that keeps visitors returning for more.

In summary, Chica Banda is more than a food truck; it is a culinary journey into the heart of Mexico’s diverse flavors, brought to Oshawa with authenticity and care. It’s a must-visit for taco aficionados and newcomers alike eager to explore beyond the ordinary.
